September 16, 1810. A bell rings in the town of Dolores. And everything changes.

In the early hours of that September morning, a parish priest named Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang the bell of his church and called his congregation to gather. What he said next would ignite an eleven-year war and eventually birth a nation. History would call it El Grito de Independencia — The Cry of Independence.

This commemorative copper round captures that moment — not the battles that followed, but the instant before. The courage it takes to be first.

Father Hidalgo stands at the center, larger than the chaos around him, flanked by figures representing the people who answered his call — indigenous men, mestizos, farmers, and fighters. The Liberty Bell echoes in the background. Above, the Mexican eagle watches over a land not yet free, but already reaching for it.

The intentionally aged artwork — weathered copper tones, darkened shadows, distressed color — gives the piece the character of a historical artifact rather than a modern reproduction. The dates 1810–1821 mark the beginning of the struggle and the moment Mexico finally stood sovereign.

The revolution did not begin on a battlefield. It began with a voice, a bell, and the willingness to stand up.

The artwork is individually UV printed directly onto a genuine copper round. Rather than hiding the metal beneath the design, the artwork was created to work with it. Copper-colored borders, metallic details, weathered surfaces and deep shadows visually interact with the underlying copper to create the appearance of an aged commemorative medal.

Each piece is individually produced, and natural variations in the copper surface may make every finished round slightly different.
